The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is about to reset the past 18 years of movies.

The MCU was the first attempt to create a live action universe for marvel and its characters.

This attempt was a huge success. According to the Walt Disney Company, the MCU has generated over $30 billion in the global box office.

However, the MCU’s last saga is coming to an end. After “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars,” Disney is hitting the reset button.

By casting new actors and aging down the characters, Marvel is creating a whole new world, and Riverside students have something to say about it.

“Honestly I think it was a good run,” said Senior Kenzi Dillard. “I don’t want it to end, but if it has to end, I know they have more stuff planned so I’m excited.”

With the upcoming release of Doomsday and its sequel, Secret Wars, the Avengers, a team of powerful and popular heroes including The Hulk and Captain America, are coming back to the big screen.

This return is bringing a lot of excitement for fans of the MCU. In recent years there have been many projects, like “Thunderbolts,” which ended up infamous at the box office and with Riverside students.

“You’re trying to take a modern style of today’s age and just put it in with our Marvel characters,” said junior Jonathan Hill.

“I could see they tried to bring [The hype for the MCU] back, it was a good attempt, it’s not bad, but it could’ve been better,” said Dillard “I wanted [the MCU] to break down more characters and let more characters have standalone movies.”

As part of the reset the X-Men, a team of mutants with superpowers, will receive their first standalone movie in MCU history.

“Honestly, that’d be a good collab,” said Dillard. “There are a few good X-Men that would make a good team and combination with the current MCU.”

“Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret” War are set to be released in theaters on Dec. 18, 2026 and Dec. 17 2027, respectively.

After the reset, characters like Ghost Rider will get their own movies alongside the older characters like Black Panther getting new renditions. This has made many people excited to see the different versions of older characters.

I’m excited to see Black Panther, Spider-Man, and Hulk, said Hill. “Also Ironman, he was basically the main man in the MCU, at least this one.”
