The women’s varsity volleyball team improved to 4-5 after defeating Northern 3-0 on Thursday.
Riverside has faced some good teams this year, including Wake Forest, Jordan, and Orange.
“Even if we aren’t winning, our team is keeping a very positive mindset,” said senior Liesl Rehder.
Rehder has been part of the volleyball team for four years and spent the last two years on varsity. She is excited to play Northern this season because it is such a big rivalry. She also wants to improve her consistency and her reliability while playing at the “fast pace” of the team’s recent games.
One of the team’s biggest strengths is the connection between the players.
“Off the court our team is really close and that translates to the way we communicate, trust and celebrate each other on the court,” said Rehder.
Another four-year varsity player, senior Nureen Khan also believes celebrating with teammates is one of the team’s biggest strengths.
“We trust each other to do our specific roles and always celebrate the big wins as a team and the little wins for every individual player,” said senior Liesl Rehder.
The team bonding has also created some of the players favorite memories. Rehder said that her favorite memories include sweeping Northern at Northern her junior year and “pool party team bonding.”
Riverside travels to Eastern Alamance tonight before resuming conference play at Hillside on Tuesday and at home versus Southern on Thursday.
