Growing up riding city buses helped inspire senior Brandan Miller.

“We used to catch the bus a lot when I was a kid, so that probably did something,”
Miller said.

After graduation, Miller plans to pursue
work as a city bus operator, potentially with GoDurham.

“It was always something I wanted to do ever since I was a little kid, ” Miller said.

Miller said his passion for driving has only grown over time. In addition to school, he has delivery jobs, including DoorDash and Domino’s.

“That does help, gaining work experience as a driver,” Miller said.

To become a city bus operator, Miller plans to earn a commercial drivers license (CDL) with a passenger endorsement after graduation.

Outside of his future career goals, Miller said one of the most meaningful parts of high school experiences has been Riverside’s band program.

“I’m gonna miss the band a lot when I graduate,” Miller said. “It’s probably been my favorite part.”

Miller has participated in band since his freshman year. Playing the trumpet since middle school as well as part of symphonic. He has remained involved through several changes with the program.

Band Director Steven Mann said Miller’s commitment and leadership made a strong impact on the marching band, especially during his senior year.

“He was a leader of the band,” Mann said. “He did a lot to take initiative without me prompting him.”

According to Mann, Miller helped organize responsibilities for football games and communicated regularly with both students and staff.

“He absolutely was committed.” Mann said. “He gave us some strong leadership this past season.”

Mann added that MIller’s enthusiasm remained consistent throughout his years in the program even as the band transitioned from competitive marching style to a more college-style atmosphere.

“Whoever’s next is going to have to pick up where he left off,” Mann said. “He will be missed.”
