Horror
Scream, a 1996 horror film directed by Wes Craven, is a classic fan favorite. This classic was such a hit that it has become a seven movie franchise. Arguably the best of the heptalogy is the 1st movie. Set in the small town of Woodsboro, CA, a mysterious masked murder that goes by the name “Ghostface” goes on a killing spree. When a high school student named Sidney Prescott becomes the next target, she and her friends work to uncover who Ghostface really is before it’s too late.
What makes Scream a must-watch this fall is its mix between horror and humor, making it perfect for family and friends to sit together in suspense as they watch.
Honorable Mentions- The Blair Witch Project, The Black Phone, Halloween, The Sixth Sense

Romance
The first novel of the famous trilogy by Stephenie Meyer, Twilight was adapted into a film by director Catherene Hardwicke in 2008. The movie Twilight screams (get it?) fall as its set in the small, gloomy town of Forks, WA, under a never-ending cloud of fog.
This film perfectly ties in essential spooky characters of Halloween as it centers around a mysterious vampire named Edward Cullen and a brooding werewolf named Jacob Black. When high school girl Bella Swan moves into the town with her dad, she becomes the center of their attention. She falls in love with Edward and their relationship opens Bella up to the fantasy world Forks really is.
Twilight will leave your heart feeling mushy and keep you on the edge of your seat as Bella navigates her far-from-normal teenage years.
Honorable Mentions- Juno, When Harry Met Sally, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

Animation
The 2009 dark fantasy movie, Coraline is another film adapted from a novel. Originally written by Neil Gaimen, the popular book was made into a stunning animated movie.
What makes Coraline so breathtaking is that it is the first ever stop-motion to be conceived and photographed in Stereoscopic 3D. The unique filmography adds to the eeriness along with its music tracks, which includes “Sirens of The Sea,” by Bruno Coulis.
The film is centered around a young girl named Coraline Jones who has recently moved to a new and peculiar home with a secret door. Behind the door is a seemingly perfect alternate world that Coraline much prefers to her normal, boring one. Coraline soon learns this other world is a trap to keep her there forever. This movie captures the essence of Halloween and is perfect for families to watch on a fall night.
