“Team Gringos” won the spring 5-on-5 soccer tournament organized by Destino Success on March 25.
Seniors Rhys Cohoon, Liam Gergen, Noah Wenzlik, and Jonah Ades, along with juniors William Crutchfield and Timba N’Caca came out on top in the 18-team bracket.
¨It feels great that I won the tournament with my fellow teammates. It was just reminding me of the school soccer season,¨ Wenzlick said. ¨I think it’s a good representation of the Riverside soccer program.¨
Gergen said the tournament brought a lot more than just fun. It has created a long lasting impact on Riverside.
¨It’s giving equal representation to everybody and it’s creating a lasting and strong community,¨ Gergen said. ¨I think the fact that it’s been able to be a lasting tradition speaks volumes for the community at Riverside.¨”I think it’s very important for the school to come together every once in a while, and this is a great opportunity for that,¨ Wenzlick said.
Junior Nasly Galo-Vasquez helped organize and promote the spring tournament.
“I feel like you can share some fun with your friends,” Galo-Vasquez said. “And I think it’s important, too, because it builds our community.”
Destino success adviser Allison Swaim thanked teachers, administrators and coaches for their support in an email to staff on March 27.
“A huge thank you to Coach Cade, and also to Ms. Kistler, the Spanish National Honor Society, Ms. Ballon, Dr. Okun and Mr. Stith,” Swaim wrote. “Thank you to everyone who came and watched, who helped students sign up teams, and who advertised the event to students.”
