Classic holiday movies to enjoy this season

As 2023 is coming to an end, here are some classic Christmas movies I like to watch during the holiday season.

 1: The Grinch (2018)

     Where to Watch: Netflix

      This TV special first started as an animated movie on December 18, 1966 titled How the Grinch stole Christmas. A live-action version starring Jim Carrey came out in 2000, followed by  a computer-animated version titled Grinch in 2018, which is now popular.   

This movie is about the Grinch  and his dog Max, who live a solitary existence inside a cave on top of a mountain. Grinch hates Christmas, which leads to his aggravation. When the town of w=Whoville celebrates Christmas, he despises it and tries to ruin the holiday joy. 

2: The polar express (2004)

    Where to Watch: Hulu, Max

   The Polar Express is a 1985 fantasy children’s picture book  written and illustrated by Chris Van Allsburg. The movie version came out in 2004 and it is now considered e a classic Christmas movie.

The Polar Express is about  a little boy that did not believe in the Christmas spirit. He took an adventure on a train to the North Pole and discovered it himself. At the end of the story, he meets Santa and learns the magic of Christmas. 

3: The nightmare before Christmas (1993)

   Where to Watch: Disney+

This musical fantasy was released on October 29,1993.  Created by renowned director, Tim  Burton. The film is an amazing mix of Halloween and Christmas that is now many film fans’ first choice to watch.  Burton’s imagination and the animation itself Make this is a great one to watch with family and friends.

The film’s main character is Jack Skellington, who is the pumpkin king of Halloween town. He is bored of scaring people in the real world and stumbles across Christmas town. When he sees all the bright colors and holiday spirits, he plans to take control of Christmas.

4: Home alone (1990)

Where to Watch: Hulu, Disney+

Home Alone is a comedy film series that first came out on November 16, 1990. There are numerous sequels (some are better than others), but the original was created by John Hughes. 

This comedy is about Kevin McCallister, a rebellious little boy who was  grounded the night before a family trip, then mistakenly left home alone. When he notices two thieves are planning to rob his house, he makes big plans to protect his home.

5: Christmas chronicles (2018)

 Where to Watch : Netflix

The comedy adventure came out on November 22, 2018.  The sequel, Christmas Chronicles 2, was released in 2020. This series took everyone by shock. . With a rating of 4.6, this Christmas movie seems to get more popular every year.

Two  siblings, Kate and Teddy, have mixed feelings about their first Christmas without their father, who has passed. Teddy wants to see his father one last time, but Katie has a different desire: she wants to meet Santa. On Christmas Eve, they team up and hatch a scheme to capture Santa. The plan doesn’t work, and the siblings must team up with the one and only, Saint Nick  to save the holiday before it is too late.

6: Elf (2003)

 Where to Watch: Hulu, Max

Elf was released November 7, 2003. It  took about 10 years before it was released due to numerous script edits, casting, and studio changes . The movie is rated  4.6 stars. It is funny and a  great Christmas movie  to watch with family.

Buddy the elf was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised by Santa’s elves. He can’t seem to fit in as an oversized elf and he overhears his adoptive father, Papa Elf, say he is  human. Buddy decided to travel to New York to try and find his real father. He and his biological  father find each other and try to build a connection, and it turns out they both needed a little Christmas spirit.
