Riverside held a door decorating contest during Black History Month. Several teachers and students worked together to cover their doors with interesting facts and pictures that celebrate, praise and appreciate African Americans present and past.
Many teachers participated, including the librarians and administration.
The winner of the contest was Misty Branton and her science students.
“It was refreshing to know that a diverse group of kids before and after school can come together, including myself, to make a project that empowers all of the building!” Brantonsaid.
She plans to continue to do a door every month to support every culture. Next month she wants to create one that celebrates Islam.
