The varsity men’s volleyball team looks to improve upon its greatest season in school history.

The Pirates finished with a 20-5 record in 2025 and made it all the way to the Elite 8 in the state playoffs.

The team attained this success on the backs of Skyy Russell, who now plays for St. Norbert College, and three-year captain John Feller.

Russell, Feller and two other seniors graduated. But head coach Collin Phillips is excited to see new and returning players step up in new roles.

“When you lose a majority of your hitting production, things are going to look different,” Phillips said.“We’ve got guys like Noah Mecagni, who is going to be an outside hitter. He’s 6 ‘5, 6’ 6, so he’s coming in and switching to a different role this year”.

Phillips, who started this team when he was a senior at Riverside four years ago. The Pirates have never had a losing season and plan to keep winning this spring.

“I want us to get back to the Elite 8,” Phillips said. “And I want us to go undefeated in our conference.”

The team’s first game will be against Southern, March 3.
