How does it feel to win the 2024 Pirates Hook Bracket Challenge?
Fiona Fehrman (FF): It feels good. I feel like I made a lot of guesses but it worked out.
Claire Heffernan (CH): It feels great I was not expecting it.
What tactics or strategies did you employ while filling out your bracket?
FF: “Mainly picking the higher seed but then a few little upsets”
CH: I don’t know a ton about basketball, but I looked at the standings of the teams and then guessed a little bit about their last few games and then just kind of put it together. It was pretty random. I made an ESPN one as well, and it actually did better.
How many tournament games did you watch?
FF: Probably eight.
CH: Probably ten.
Which one was the most suspenseful?
FF: Probably the UCONN Iowa final four-game.
CH: I’m a pretty big UNC fan so I would say the UNC games.
When did you realize that you had a legit chance of winning the Bracket Challenge?
FF: Probably when I started beating Mr. Nevola.
CH: Around the final four games.
What do you plan to do with your trophy?
FF: Put it on my dresser so I can look at it every morning and remember my success.
CH: I’m going to hang it up somewhere.
What was the most surprising part of the tournament this year?
FF: I don’t think there were any surprises. I feel like it was kind of a predictable tournament.
CH: I was surprised my bracket made this far this far but I’m also surprised two number-one teams made it to the championship.
What teams did you really want to win?
FF: I wanted to see UCONN and Paige Bueckers.
CH: “UNC”
What do you think everyone would agree was the most memorable/iconic part of the tournament?
FF: Probably South Carolina winning again and complete their undefeated season.
CH: N/A
