On Friday, March 1st, Riverside high schools orchestra, band, and chorus collaborated on an event named “Music In Our Schools Month Concert” (MIOSM). This event educates students about the importance of music and celebrates March being the official month for music in our schools.
This event took place at Riverside’s auditorium on the Andrew Crabtree stage. and over 100 students played ten pieces over the span of around an hour.
“We’re sort of also looking at the idea of March being music in our school’s month and trying to make it an advocacy moment as well,” said band director Steven Mann.
This event came close to filling the auditorium. Most of the spectators were friends, parents and other supporters of the students and music programs.
“Each ensemble is choosing different pieces so there is a different variety of styles being represented.”
