Frank Hayes started as a substitute at Riverside close to a decade ago, and now he has finally achieved his dream of becoming an English teacher.
“I came here honestly, as a substitute teacher in the 2014-2015 school year and I’ve been here ever since,” he said. “I was only going to be here for a week as a Spanish teacher, but I wound up staying the entire semester.”
Hayes taught in the Exceptional Children’s Division for five years before he started teaching English.
“I felt like my time was done and I felt like I needed to move on,” said Hayes.

Hayes has always wanted to be an English teacher, and this year he moved to the English department. He now teaches English 1 and honors English 3.
“This school year has been interesting,” he said. “I have loved it. It has been stressful and crazy and I have loved every minute of it since I have been in this department. I am in my zone, I am where I want to be.”
Even though Hayes only intended to teach for a week, he is grateful that he wound up staying at Riverside.
“What I love about Riverside is that they welcomed me with open arms and they healed all of my wounds that I came here with and I am eternally grateful,” he said.
