Athlete of the Week: Devin Smith

Devin Smith is a senior wide receiver who has made a major impact in every football game this season.

Smith has been playing football ever since he was five years old, and says he got his inspiration from his father. Since he was young, he has been playing to his fullest.

Smith began his high school football career at Southern Durham. He transferred to Riverside last year.

At 5’10” and 175 pounds, Smith is leading the team in receiving and all purpose yards, along with 10 touchdowns.

“Being able to make a smooth transition was the biggest thing,” said Cory Lea, Riverside’s head football coach, “In the tone that Devin has, it’s not about him, and being the great athlete he is, it’s more about us and the team,”

“Devin is humble and a great leader,” said teammate Torey Floyd, who plays middle linebacker.

Smith hopes that one day he will commit to a division-I college to continue his career.

The Pirates are off to a 4-1 start this season with a home game this Friday against Cary High.
