Alumni Spotlight: Wesley Meyers

Wesley Meyers (‘15) currently works in live video production, also known as technical directing. He operates video sources and graphic machines to produce live shows.

The production can vary from sports to political shows. Last year, for example, he was part of a political summit. He was a part of the behind the scenes process, allowing it to come to life.

“I actually got into [technical directing] through a program I did in high school with the Durham Bulls called Explore Plus 50,” Meyers said.

Meyers recalls fond memories of his time at Riverside.

“I remember a couple teachers that were good about pushing us towards learning something just for the sake of learning,” he said. “Learning is something I still have to do, trying to learn better ways of doing things.”

Meyers wishes he knew his career path was an option when he was in highschool.

“When I was in school it felt like the only option was to go to college, get a degree and get a stable 9-to-5 job, working for a single company.”

Meyers’ current job is the furthest thing from that. He is exposed to endless different opportunities and sets his own schedule, all while doing the thing he loves most.

“I work for myself in a lot of ways and I didn’t need a degree to do it,” he said.

Meyers advises current Riverside students to find their passion.

“Find something that you enjoy and continue to get better at it,” he said.
