My Top 5 Hip-Hop Albums of 2019

Igor – Tyler, the Creator

Igor was very hyped up in the weeks leading up to its release. It was promoted with the character, Igor, which is Tyler in a suit, sunglasses and a blonde wig. The album lived up to the hype when it was released. Igor is one of my favorite albums of 2019 because it has a very unique sound that is refreshing when more mainstream sounding music starts to get boring. The background vocals make it so you hear something new with ever listen.

So Much Fun – Young Thug

So Much Fun has been one of the most successful albums of 2019. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and has continued to be one of the most streamed albums this year. So Much Fun is packed with hit songs such as Hot (feat. Gunna), Light it Up, Bad Bad Bad (feat. Lil Baby) and The London (feat. J. Cole & Travis Scott). The quick-paced beats and catchy flows make So Much Fun very fun to listen to. The energizing instrumentals make So Much Fun a great album to use as a pre-game playlist. My favorite songs on SMF are Light it Up, Just How It Is and Lil Baby.

The Lost Boy – YBN Cordae

The Lost Boy is the debut album of 22 year old North Carolina native, YBN Cordae. TLB features a wide variety of flows and tones. There are some slow and softer sounding songs such as Thanksgiving and Thousand Words. These are contrasted by faster, more energetic sounding tracks such as Lost & Found and Broke AF. This makes The Lost Boy a good listen no matter what mood you are in.  My favorite tracks on The Lost Boy are Have Mercy, Been Around and Lost & Found.

Revenge Of The Dreamers III – Dreamville, J. Cole

J.Cole teamed up with many of the other Dreamville artists to make Revenge Of The Dreamers III. Every track on ROTD3 features at least two or three artists so you get to hear a wide variety of voices all in one album. The variety of voices and flows that can be heard within just one song makes it difficult to get bored of listening to ROTD3. My favorite songs on this album are Under The Sun, Down Bad and Sunset.

CrasH Talk – ScHoolboy Q

CrasH Talk is Schoolboy Q’s first album since 2016 but it was worth the wait. CrasH Talk is my go to album to listen to while driving because the beats sound so good on car speakers.  My favorite songs from CrasH Talk are Numb Numb Juice, Dangerous (feat. Kid Cudi) and CrasH.
